Before your child takes their first dive, you want to know where they’re going. What does the facility look like? Is it a real diving pool? Is it safe? Is it close to home?
At Tri-Valley Divers, we train at one of the best aquatic facilities in the East Bay — the Las Positas College Aquatic Center in Livermore, California. Here’s everything you need to know about our home pool.
Where Is Las Positas Aquatic Center?
The Las Positas College Aquatic Center is located on the campus of Las Positas College at 3000 Campus Hill Drive, Livermore, CA 94551. It sits in a beautiful outdoor setting with views of the rolling East Bay hills — one of the most scenic pool environments you’ll find anywhere in the region.
From the major Tri-Valley cities, it’s an easy drive:
- From Livermore: 5–10 minutes depending on your neighborhood
- From Pleasanton: Approximately 10–15 minutes via I-580
- From Dublin: Approximately 15–20 minutes via I-580 East
- From San Ramon or Danville: Approximately 20–25 minutes
Parking on campus is available and plentiful. For most TVD practices, you’ll enter from the main Campus Hill Drive entrance and follow signs to the aquatic center — it’s easy to find once you’ve been once.
The Diving Facility
The Las Positas Aquatic Center is a dedicated competitive aquatic facility — not a rec center pool with a board in the corner. It was designed for serious swimming and diving programs and has the infrastructure to match.
The diving area features a separate diving well that’s deep enough for competitive diving practice at all levels. The water is well-maintained, clear, and properly heated for year-round training.
For divers, the outdoor environment adds something special. Unlike indoor natatoriums, Las Positas combines open sky, natural light, and fresh air with a professional competitive setup. On a sunny Livermore morning, it’s hard to find a better place to train.
Springboard and Platform Equipment
Las Positas has a full suite of competitive diving equipment:
- Three 1-meter springboards — the primary training board for all TVD programs, from beginners through competitive athletes
- Two 3-meter springboards — used by advanced athletes in our Junior Olympic program
- 1-meter platform — for platform diving training
- Side-of-pool training stations — low-height platforms used for entry drills and beginner skill work
Having multiple boards available means coaches can group athletes by level and keep the training flow moving efficiently. Beginners work the 1-meter boards while more experienced divers may be working 3-meter. Everyone stays active and no one spends class standing in a long line.
Training in the Tri-Valley’s Best Outdoor Setting
If you’ve visited other aquatic programs in the area, you’ll notice right away that Las Positas is something different. The Tri-Valley’s characteristic golden hills form the backdrop to the pool deck. On clear days, the views extend for miles.
For young athletes who are just starting their diving journey, the environment matters. A beautiful, welcoming facility makes it easier to show up, easier to focus, and easier to fall in love with the sport. We hear regularly from TVD families that just visiting the facility for the first time made them feel like their child was in the right place.
What to Expect When You Arrive for the First Time
Arriving somewhere new can feel a little uncertain. Here’s exactly what to expect:
Parking: Park in the main Las Positas College parking lots near the aquatic center. There’s typically plenty of availability during TVD practice times.
Check-in: Look for a TVD coach or staff member on the pool deck. Introduce yourself and your child — we love meeting new families.
Pool deck rules: Standard aquatic safety rules apply — no running, no horseplay on the deck. Coaches enforce these calmly and consistently.
Parents during practice: Parents are welcome to watch from designated viewing areas. We actually love having involved parents — it helps kids feel supported, and you get to see firsthand how your child is progressing.
After practice: Allow a few minutes for your child to dry off and cool down. If you have questions for the coach, after-practice conversations are always welcome.
Year-Round Training in All Weather
One of the most common questions we get from new families: “Is it outdoor? What happens when it’s cold?”
Yes, Las Positas is an outdoor facility — and yes, TVD trains year-round. Livermore’s climate is genuinely excellent for outdoor sport. Winters are mild, and the Tri-Valley sees far fewer cold, wet days than much of the Bay Area. Most athletes adapt quickly and actually enjoy the fresh-air training environment.
On unusually cold or rainy days, we communicate any changes to practice schedules directly with families.
Come See It for Yourself — First Class Is Free
The best way to experience Las Positas and the TVD training environment is to come to a class. Your child’s first session is completely free — no commitment, no sign-up pressure, just a chance to try the sport in a welcoming environment at one of the East Bay’s finest aquatic facilities.
Families from Livermore, Pleasanton, Dublin, San Ramon, and across the Tri-Valley have been sending their kids here for decades. Once you see the facility and meet our coaching staff, you’ll understand why.
